DSSE provides a wide range of engineering and on-site services, as well as supplying proprietary equipment for the sugar and sweetener industries. More than 100 sweetener plants worldwide operate with technology developed by DSSE — Danish-developed, proven standard equipment for large-scale industrial plants.
Our specialized Vacuum Pan Microscope and Cooling Crystallizers are highly regarded niche products. DSSE is also a major supplier of spare parts for the industry, with an extensive programme covering both DSSE-designed components and third-party products.
Production of sugar from cane or beet comprises a number of unit operations — DSSE designs and supplies the key equipment for each of them.
The DSSE Diffuser is designed for the efficient extraction of sugar from both sugar beet and sugar cane. It consists of a double cylindrical inclined vessel in which the prepared raw material is transported by two intermeshing screws.
Vacuum crystallizers are used to crystallize sugar massecuite and control the formation and growth of sugar crystals.
Advanced PLC-based control system for fully automated vacuum pan operation and crystallization. The system controls the complete pan cycle, including charging, concentration, seeding, dilution, tightening, discharge and cleaning.
A vacuum pan microscope is an essential instrument for monitoring crystal growth in sugar and anhydrous dextrose crystallizers. It allows operators to observe the size, shape, and development of crystals during the crystallization process, helping to maintain consistent product quality.
Sweetener production from starch comprises its own unit operations — and DSSE supplies the key equipment for those too.
The DSSE Multi-Stage Reactor is designed for continuous dextrinisation of enzymatic liquefied starches as feed material. The geometrical design of the chambers together with the special design of agitator ensures a uniform dextrinisation of the liquefied starch.
The DSSE Horizontal Cooling Crystallizers are designed for the crystallization of dextrose monohydrate with fully refined high DE liquid dextrose as feed material. They can be utilized in either batch or continuous process. The concentrated and pre-cooled liquid dextrose is fed direct to the crystallizer (batch operation), or to a mixing tank before entering the crystallizer (continuous operation).
Vacuum crystallizers are used to produce anhydrous dextrose. The DSSE-developed vacuum crystallizer, also called a Vacuum Pan, is for production of both anhydrous dextrose and sugar (sucrose). The core of the crystallization is however not only the design of the crystallizer itself — but also the DSSE VP7, a PLC-controlled processor unit which controls the growth of crystals.
The DSSE Hydrogenator is developed for hydrogenation of dextrose to sorbitol. In the Hydrogenator a dextrose solution (DS 50%), containing an activated nickel catalyst, is heated and exposed to hydrogen under high pressure. The DSSE Hydrogenator works under a pressure of approximately 50 bar (g) and a temperature of 140 °C. The process is batch-wise and the total time per charge amounts to 5–8 hours depending on the process design.
The DSSE agitator improves the overall efficiency of the machine by ensuring a more effective and consistent mixing process.
